Fuel for the Fire: Embracing Support and Criticism on Our Full-Time Travel Journey
Share
When we decided to pack up our lives and move into a camper full time with our kids, we knew we were stepping into a whole new world… literally and figuratively. The dream of waking up to new landscapes, exploring nature, and sharing unforgettable adventures as a family felt like the perfect path for us. But as with any big life decision, not everyone saw it the same way.
We’ve been incredibly blessed by the support we have received from friends, family, and even strangers who understand our desire to live differently. Their words of encouragement, shared excitement, and genuine curiosity have fuelled our passion and kept us grounded during all the ups and downs! Whether it’s someone reaching out to say they’ve always dreamed of doing something similar or those cheering us on from afar, that support means more than we can express.
But then there’s the other side… like the skepticism, the side-eyes, and the “Why would you do that to your kids?” comments. Some people just don’t get it. And you know what? That’s okay. Not everyone will understand why we chose this path, and they don’t have to. In fact, those doubters and critics? They’ve become unexpected fuel for our fire.
Every time someone questions our choices, it only reaffirms why we made them in the first place. We’re teaching our kids that life isn’t about fitting into someone else’s mold… it’s about finding what makes your heart beat faster and chasing it with everything you’ve got. We’re showing them that it’s okay to live outside the box, to embrace discomfort, and to find joy in the simple things like a sunrise over a mountain, the sound of waves against the shore, or a quiet moment under the stars.
Sure, it’s not always easy. There are days when the challenges of life on the road feel overwhelming, and the critical voices start to echo a little louder. But then we remember why we’re doing this. We remember the laughter around the campfire, the awe in our kids eyes when they see something new, and the deep connection we’ve built as a family. That’s the stuff that really matters.
So to those who support.. thank you. Your encouragement lights the way when the road gets tough. And to those who doubt us.. also thank you, too. You remind us that we’re brave enough to follow our own path, no matter what anyone else thinks.
At the end of the day, this journey isn’t about proving anything to anyone else. It’s about living fully, loving deeply, and showing our kids that the world is big, beautiful, and meant to be explored. Whether people cheer us on or question our choices, we’ll keep moving forward… one adventure at a time.
Because when you’re following your heart, even the criticism becomes part of the fuel that keeps the fire burning bright.
